Consumers Applications Gain Unprecedented Ability to Communicate with Electronic Health Records (EHRs)

Secure Exchange Solutions is the first independent HISP to have a consumer anchor accepted as part of DirectTrust, empowering consumer health applications to exchange data with physician applications without the need for custom interfaces.

Rockville, MD – Secure Exchange Solutions has become the first independent Health Information Service Provider (HISP) to have a consumer anchor accepted by DirectTrust.org. DirectTrust is the premier trust bundle for healthcare communications, connecting over 40,000 healthcare provider organizations nationwide.

The acceptance of Secure Exchange’s consumer anchor opens the door for seamless communication between consumer healthcare, fitness and other applications and the electronic health records (EHRs) used by physicians, hospitals and other care providers. This new channel of communication, made possible by leveraging the widely used Direct standard for secure healthcare messaging, creates new avenues to implement telemedicine, communicate with home health systems and initiate other exchanges that will give providers a more complete picture of patient health. The use of standardized connectivity will result in an improvement in quality of care and a reduction in healthcare costs.

“Secure Exchange Solutions was one of the earliest advocates of the Direct standard for healthcare communications” says Dr. David Kibbe, CEO of DirectTrust.org, “With Direct now the method of choice for healthcare messaging, Secure Exchange continues to take the lead in innovation, expanding the benefit of standard-based communications to connect all members of the healthcare community, including consumers.”

“DirectTrust has paved the way for connectivity among all healthcare providers,” said Dan Kazzaz, CEO of Secure Exchange Solutions. “Consumer participation is the next step in creating a fully connected healthcare environment, connecting consumer applications to EHRs without a need for complex interfaces.  Secure Direct interaction with consumers fosters more complete patient health information, leading to better quality of care.”
